Nuapada police cracks August 15 double murder case over copper coin deal, arrests three

Nuapada: Nuapada police cracked the double murder case that occurred August 15 and arrested three accused for their involvement in the crime.

Informing about the case details at a press meet held here Thursday evening, sub-divisional police officer Prashant Kumar Pattanayak said the copper coin deal was the reason behind the murder.

The arrested accused trio—Achyut Majhi (34) and Niranjan Majhi (25) of Kerameli village and Tularam Majhi (32) of Sialti village—was produced in a local court Thursday evening and was sent to judicial custody as their bail plea was rejected.

According to the police, Pintu Sahu (25) along with his uncle Dambaru Sahu and Padman Majhi (45) of Rengabahal village under Komana police limits had gone to Kerameli hill August 15 to buy. Reaching there, Dambaru stayed back at the foothill while Pintu and Padman went up to the hill carrying the money.

As per the plan fixed earlier, Achyut, Niranjan and Tularam had been waiting for them at the top of the hill. There at the top of the hill, the two groups entered into a verbal duel over the price of the coin.

It took an ugly turn as the accused trio started beating up Pintu and Padman with clubs. They continued beating them up till they breathed their last. Then they took Rs2 lakh from the deceased’s possession and dumped the bodies at Bangaghat .

On the other hand, Dambaru who was waiting for Pintu and Padman at the foothill returned home as the duo did not return even after a long time.

Later police carried out an investigation on the basis of Dambaru’s statement and arrested the trio.
