Nubya Garcia enchants students with scintillating performance

BHUBANESWAR: SAI International School got the chance to experience the performance of an international musician closely as famous saxophonist, flautist and composer Nubya Garcia and her team performed in the Indraprastha Auditorium Monday.

The audience was swayed by Nubya’s ease at handing her instrument. Her performance was thoughtfull and passionate. Her team played musical pieces like Source, Fly free, Hold and Contemplation, giving spectators a taste of British jazz.

26-year old Nubya Nyasha Emmelda Garcia is one of the leading forces behind the resurgence of jazz music in United Kingdom. She was accompanied by Dominic Stephen Canning, who played the keyboard, Guitarist Michael Shrimpling and Drummer Jake Bernard Long. This was the band’s maiden trip to India.

The programme, facilitated by the British council of east and north east, is part of the year-long celebration of the completion of 70 years since establishment of British Council in India. Chairman B.K.Sahoo congratulated the band and said that such international exposure in the field of music is a great source of inspiration for young aspirants. Principal Harish Sanduja appreciated connoisseur Nubya and her band for their amazing performance.

Talking to Orissa post Garcia said that this was her first performance in India. I performed at Kolkata last night. She said that India is very warm and welcoming. I look forward to spend more time here.

Praising the students she said that the audience was so patient and encouraging. It was a pleasure to perform for them. On Indian music, she said that she would like to explore more of it as classical music interests her.
