OAS probationers get feel of city command centre

Bhubaneswar: Altogether 95 probationers from the Odisha Administrative Services (OAS) Saturday evening visited the Smart City Command Centre to acquaint themselves with administration of the systems there which can help in increasing the efficacy of the city.

The probationers were exposed to many facets of the state-of-the art facility, which are used to manage city operations like traffic, surveillance, disaster preparedness, grievance redressal among others under a single roof.

The first-of-its-kind centralised command and control centre to monitor, operate, and control existing services of the city, was inaugurated by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik July 9 this year. The Adaptive Traffic Signal System, tracking of buses and Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation vehicles along with Grievance Redressal System is being operationalised at present from the Bhubaneswar Operations Centre (BOC).

General Manager (Operations) of Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited (BSCL) Bijay Kumar Swain explained how the operations centre was envisaged to be developed further in a manner to keep an eye on several functions like traffic management, incident management, city surveillance, emergency services and disaster management. He also briefed the probationers about other components of the Smart City proposal and their progress.

Rupalika Das, a probationer said, “The technological innovations for the city’s development and citizen’s welfare speak a lot about the meaningful implementation of the Smart City ideas. I hope the city will benefit immensely from BOC,” she said.
