Bhubaneswar: Odia cine star Salil Mitra breathed his last in a private hospital here Monday night. He was 52.
Mitra was undergoing treatment at the hospital here after sustaining critical injuries in a road accident near Ghatagaon College square in Keonjhar district May 12. He was on his way to Karanjia in Mayurbhanj district when the incident occurred. He was initially admitted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack and later shifted to the private hospital.
According to family sources, he breathed his last around 12:15am. He is survived by his wife and two daughters.
They further informed that he had his rib fractured and sustained severe injuries on his spinal cord in the accident.
His final rites will be performed in Karanjia, they added.
Mitra had started his career from theatre and then tried his luck in movie industry. He had made his debut with ‘Pua Bhangi Dela Suna Sansara’ in 1999.
He will be remembered for his roles, mostly in comic ones, in ‘Arjun’ (2005), ‘Subh Bibah’ (2010), ‘Hero’ (2011), ‘Balunga Toka’ (2011), ‘Kebe Tume Nahan Kebe Mun Nahin’ (2012), ‘Tu Mo Aarambha Tu Mo Sesha’ (2012), ‘Ganja Ladhei’ (2014), ‘Gapa Hele Bi Sata’ (2015) and ‘Sister Sridevi’ (2017) among others.
This apart, he had acted in numerous Odia serials and albums among which ‘Full Gadbad’ needs special mention. He was also part of the cast in ‘Maal Mahu Jeevan Mati’.
A pall of gloom descended on the Odia cine industry after the news of his demise broke. Many film actors, theatre artists, directors, producers and eminent personalities from various fields reached his residence to pay their last respects to the departed soul.
