Daringbadi: Born and brought up in Odisha’s tribal-dominated Kandhamal district, renowned foley artist Varun Bisoyi’s humble background couldn’t stop him from dreaming big. His passion for Hindi films took him to Mumbai, where he is making Odisha proud and bringing laurels to the state.
Varun is currently working as a foley artist in Mumbai, and his latest work is Sunny Deol’s blockbuster movie Gadar 2. The Odisha lad has been receiving appreciation for his amazing work in the film.
Although he started his career as a waiter, he moved up the ladder pretty quickly to land a job as a foley recordist in a Mumbai-based studio. He runs his own studio these days after tasting success and fame, the young man tells OrissaPOST. In 2021, he took another talented kid Shiva Sambhu Digal under his wings, who used to work as a hawker for Odia daily Dharitri, but had a passion to make a mark on his own.
With his achievements and hard work, he is making his mother proud, who battled every odd to provide for the family after his father’s death. Growing up, Varun had to face several obstacles amid poverty. He had to work as a tailor from his teenage years and save up to move to Mumbai in 2002, says his mother who is quick to add that she was initially reluctant to let him move to Mumbai.
However, he had bigger dreams to chase, and his aspirations led him to Mumbai – the city of dreams. After initial years of struggle, working as a canteen boy in the studio, Varun found success as a foley artist and the rest is history.
So far, he has worked in more than 150 films collaborating with highly acclaimed directors and stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Akshay Kumar, Sunny Deol, Nana Patekar, and Ranveer Singh among others.
Varun’s impressive portfolio includes famous films such as “Three Idiots,” “Bajirao Mastani,” “Ghajini,” and “Robot.” Moreover, Varun’s talents extend beyond Hindi films; he has also contributed to Odia, Gujarati, Telugu, and Marathi cinema. He worked in Odia movie “Daman” – which was a critical and commercial success.
Varun’s journey is a testament to the power of dreams, determination, and hard work. From humble beginnings in Kandhamal district to making significant contributions to the Indian film industry, his is a life that exemplifies resilience and greatness.
