Odia girl bags PhD seat in Oxford University in England

Bolangir: Sheetal Jain, a girl from Bongomunda in Bolangir district of Odisha has bagged a PhD seat in the prestigious University of Oxford in England among 54 aspirants from across the world.

Sheetal is the only student from India to get a PhD seat at Oxford for the forthcoming academic session.

Excited after seeing the result, Sheetal said that her father is her inspiration as he guided and supported her in every field of her life.

“It is his disciplined nature which inspired me to do hard labour which helped me bag a seat at Oxford niversity,” Sheetal said.

Sheetal has been a scholarly student throughout her college career. She pursued her graduation in History from Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College of University of Delhi (DU) and Post Graduation from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in Delhi. She is currently doing her M.Phil at JNU.

Sheetal applied for a PhD course at Oxford in September, 2019.

“For this I had submitted my Curriculum Vitae (CV) and MPhil research paper. And in August 2020 I came to know that I have been selected for pursing my PhD in the university,” she said.

Expressing his happiness over his daughter’s achievement, Sheetal’s father, Jayprakash Jain, said, “I am proud over my daughter’s achievement. Studying in Oxford University is like a dream come true for us.”

Sheetal says after completing her studies in Oxford, she will work for women empowerment.
