Bhubaneswar: The famous Sambalpuri ‘Mathematical Equation’ Saree that was worn by Hindi movie actress Vidya Balan during promotion of her recently-released film ‘Shakuntala Devi’ was auctioned for a whopping Rs 55,000.
Debanshi Mishra, an Odia student currently studying at IIT Guwahati has won the online auction of the famous saree. Mishra is a resident of Bhadrak district in Odisha.

The saree was presented to the Hindi movie actress by Bhubaneswar-based Sabat Exports Private Limited which sells its products under brand name ‘Utkalamrita’.
“The money earned from the auction will be donated to the weaver of the saree Bhagwat Meher,” tweeted Utkalamrita.
Bhagwat is a Sambalpuri ‘Ikat’ weaver from Tikiripada village under Biramaharajpur police limits in Subarnapur district. He has been in this profession for around 20 years.
It may be mentioned here that Vidya wore the ‘Sambalpuri Bandha’ saree July 30, 2020 during the e-promotion of her latest Hindi movie ‘Shakuntala Devi’. The film is based on the life of mathematical genius Shakuntala Devi.
