Bhubaneswar: Soubhagya Kumar Rath, a barefoot runner who completed the Ladakh Marathon-2018, considered one of the toughest marathons in the world because of the altitude factor, was felicitated at Bhubaneswar Cycling and Adventure Club (BCAC) office here Tuesday.
It may be mentioned here that this was the eight edition of the Ladakh Marathon which was held September 9.
The highest and one of the most strenuous marathons of the world, Ladakh Marathon-2018 was conducted at an height of 11, 500ft above the mean sea level (MSL) with more than 6,000 runners from India and abroad. Conducted in four different categories namely Ladakh Ultra – KhardungLa Challenge (72 km), Ladakh Marathon (42.195 km), Ladakh Half-Marathon (21.9 km) and Run Ladakh for Fun (7 km), this running event is claimed to be held at the highest altitude in the world. Gravel roads, stiff climbs, sharp turns, ultra-high terrains combined with adverse weather conditions along with low oxygen level, the running event is one of the toughest in the world.
