Sajanagad: A pall gloom descended on Narasinghur under Nilagiri block in Balasore district Sunday when the body of a man was brought in an ambulance from Telangana.
The deceased, Manoranjan Mohaptra (50), had been working in a marble factory in the neighbouring state. He died there January 11.
Nilagiri MLA Sukant Kumar Nayak visited the village and comforted the bereaved family.
For the last four years, Manoranjan had been working at the marble factory in Telangana. Unfortunately, a marble plate while being lifted upstairs fell on him. He sustained injuries on the head.
Manoranjan was immediately rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.
With the help of the company, his body was brought from there in an ambulance to the village.
The company paid Rs 20,000 to the bereaved family. Tension prevailed in the village for some time when some people tried to detain the ambulance.
Villagers contacted the factory manager and president of the workers’ union. The company management assured that it will provide Rs 5 lakh as compensation to the family after arranging legal heir certificate of the deceased, it was learnt.
