Odisha: 5-year-old boy run over by pick-up van

Basudevpur: Tension prevailed in Basudevpur following the death of a 5-year-old boy who was run over by a pick-up van at Bandhamunda Chhak near Mandari bridge on Basudevpur-Dhamra road in Bhadrak district Saturday.

The deceased child was identified as Saroj Mallick, son of Kanhu Mallick from Bandhamunda village.

According to reports, the pick-up van was going from Basudevpur towards Balimunda area when the child suddenly came onto the road and the speeding vehicle ran over him leading to his death on the spot.

Tension ran high as the angry locals put the body on the road and staged a blockade. Three workers, occupants of the pick-up van, were also injured in attack by the villagers.

The injured persons were identified as Biswajit Maity (driver) and Sudarshan Mandal, residents of Bahabalpur village and Ganesh Maity, a resident of Kasafal Muhan area.

Informed, Bhadrak Sadar SDPO Sourav Otta and Basudevpur PS IIC Lopamudra Nayak along with two police teams from Kasia Marine police station and Chudamani Marine police station reached the spot and pacified the angry mob.
