Odisha: 50-year-old gets three years RI in POCSO case

Balasore: Special Judge of POCSO court here Saturday convicted a 50-year-old man for outraging the modesty of a minor girl and sentenced him to three years of Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) along with a fine of Rs 1,000.

The court ruled that in default of paying the fine amount, the convict has to undergo one-year jail term more, special public prosecutor Pranab Panda said.

Panda said the convict Bidya Singh of Dingabali village under Remuna police station of Balasore district was arrested in February 2021 after the mother of the victim alleged that her daughter was molested by the accused.

The accused was tried under several sections of IPC and 8 of POCSO Act. The court after examining 13 witnesses and 10 exhibits awarded the punishment, special public prosecutor Panda said.
