Bhubaneswar: A group of miscreants armed with sharp weapons allegedly chased and hacked a youth to death in Bhubaneswar Wednesday, a source said.
The deceased was identified as Kalia Nayak, who used to live near a slum under Capital police limits.
According to the source, four miscreants with sharp weapons chased Kalia and hacked him to death. It is suspected to be a consequence of past animosity.
Police along with the forensic team reached the crime spot and launched a probe into the incident.
In another similar yet unrelated incident, a youth died while another sustained critical injuries after unidentified miscreants allegedly attacked them with sharp weapons late Tuesday night in Bolangir district.
The state has witnessed a rise in criminal cases in the recent past. As per government data, Odisha registered over 1.78 lakh criminal cases in 2022 against 1.55 lakh cases in 2021.
