New Delhi: The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Manish Khurana of Saket court Thursday dismissed the transit remand of journalist Abhijit Iyer Mitra. He was granted conditional bail on a surety of Rs 1 lakh. The court has asked him to appear before the investigating officer in Odisha by September 28.
A case was registered against Mitra under sections 34, 295 A, 153 A, 534, 298 of the IPC at a police station in Puri district.
Odisha Police was seeking a transit remand for the anti-Odisha tirade initiator Mitra.
Mitra was arrested in New Delhi by Odisha Police Thursday afternoon. A team of Odisha Police had gone to New Delhi and he was arrested under the Nizamuddin police station limits.
His controversial remarks on Odisha culture, Konark Sun Temple and Lord Jagannath had attracted widespread resentment and discontentment among the people of Odisha.
Even a privilege motion against him was initiated in Odisha Assembly Thursday demanding stringent action against him. The Speaker of Odisha Assembly has approved a proposal to form a House Committee led-by Leader of Opposition to investigate into the matter and submit a report.
Moreover, the working journalists in Odisha have submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister, Assembly Speaker, and Leader of Opposition demanding stringent action against Abhijit Iyer for his derogatory remarks against them.
