Bhubaneswar: Odisha motorcycle racing team, Narasim Racing are keen to improve on their last year’s performances when they take part at the Pirelli Malaysia Superbike Championships which will take place July 27 to 29 at the Sepang International Circuit near Kuala Lumpur.
The team comprising Odisha’s Udipta Kumar and Piyush Ranjan from Patna have qualified for this year’s event on the basis of their performances at the same event in 2017.
“The race is usually a three-day affair and on each of the days I had finished among the top 10,” Udipta stated Sunday. “The organisers of the event thus decided to include us in the list of participants. Last year, the bike we used was a little out of sync, this year we are using a modern version which is electronically better developed. So we are hoping for better results,” he added.
According to Udipta the races are conducted more or less on the lines of the Formula One format. “First there is the free practice run from which the best times are noted and the grid positions are allotted accordingly. The main race is conducted over two days,” informed Udipta.
It must be stated here that in spite of losing out on a podium place in the National Bike Racing Championships at Coimbatore, the Odisha biker is participating as the organisers have decided to send him an invitation.
