Bhubaneswar: The women’s wing of BJD Tuesday staged a protest before the Raj Bhawan against the apathy of the centre towards the state.

Carrying placards and posters, the BJD woman activists including party women MLAs, sat on demonstration near the Raj Bhawan.

They alleged that the centre had shown a stepmotherly attitude in providing houses to the poor people of the state under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).

While the BJD women’s wing was staging a protest near the Raj Bhawan, the party MLAs carrying placards also protested inside the State Assembly over the issue.

The ruling party MLAs alleged that the Centre has not released the required funds under the PMAY and deprived the poor to get the benefits under the scheme.

The BJP on the other hand flayed the ruling party and alleged large-scale irregularities in the allotment of houses under the PMAY.

BJP leader Lekhasri Samantsinghar told newsmen here that the state government has not initiated any action despite a report of Rs 1000 crore corruption in the PMAY as pointed out by the central government.

She alleged that there has been a large-scale discrepancy in the allotment of houses under the PMAY.

She said more houses were deliberately allotted in the districts where the ruling BJD has got more votes while the tribal-dominated and Maoist-infested districts have received less allotments.
