Odisha: Burglar gang busted, nine held

Balasore: Khantapada police with the help of their counterparts from Cuttack have successfully solved a burglary case. So far nine people have been arrested in this connection, Balasore SP, Sagarika Nath informed here Monday.

Those arrested have been identified as Rohit Mohanty, Manas Mahalik, Sanjay Singh, Indu Mallick and Saroj Mallick residing in Khantapada police station area and Sharan Mahalik, Sudha Mallick and Rahul Jena residents of Soro police station locality. Police also arrested Tapan Mahalik from Cuttack for helping the miscreants.

Police said that the residence of Shankar Satapathy at Manjari village under Khantapada police limits in Balasore district was burgled October 26 night. Miscreants first sprayed chemical-lased black pepper on the faces of the family members and then looted valuables including gold jewellery, mobile phones, laptops and Rs 8,000 in cash.

A case (No-236/23) was registered at Khantapada police station and police launched an investigation.

Within 48 hours, police successfully arrested the gang involved in the crime and seized all the valuables stolen. Police also seized from the miscreants three two-wheelers and four phones, the SP informed.
