Odisha cabinet recommends dissolution of state Assembly

Bhubaneswar: In its last meeting for the term, Odisha Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Saturday approved a resolution to dissolve the current and fifteenth Odisha Legislative Assembly as its term would be over in June 2019.

The decision was taken keeping the recently concluded general elections in view, said Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi speaking to newsmen here.

The resolution of the cabinet would be sent to Governor Ganeshi Lal for his approval, he added.

Official notification pertaining to the dissolution of the House is published only after the approval from the Governor.

According to set procedures, the Chief Minister and cabinet ministers resign after the election results are announced paving way for the new government.

Padhi said the last Assembly was formed on June 12, 2014 and will complete its 5-year term on June 11, 2019.
