Odisha: CBI arrests health officer of Paradip Port for accepting bribe

Paradip: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested a health officer of Paradip Port in Odisha for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 54,000 from the complainant.

CBI sources Friday said, a case was registered against Dr Rajendra Narayan Panigrahi, an officer of the Port Health Organisation (PHO), Paradip, on the allegations of demanding bribe for issuance of port health medical clearance for the crew members working in the complainant’s company.

The CBI laid a trap and caught the accused while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 54,000.

Searches were conducted at the properties linked to Panigrahi in Paradip, Cuttack and Balasore leading to recovery of cash of Rs 17 lakh and $20,558 besides some incriminating documents pertaining to five properties at various places in Odisha and Hyderabad.

The arrested accused, CBI sources said, would be produced before the Court of Special Judge Bhubaneswar today.
