New Delhi: The legal teams of Odisha and Chhattisgarh, Friday, held a meeting before the hearing of Mahanadi water dispute matter in the Tribunal Saturday.
The advocate general of Odisha and lawyers representing the state met the lawyers of Chhattisgarh at Odisha Bhawan here and held crucial discussion over the Mahanadi water dispute ahead of the hearing. According to sources, the lawyers from both states will apprise the Tribunal, Saturday, regarding the outcome of meeting.
Earlier, the Tribunal had asked both states to hold meeting for amicable solution of the matter.
The Mahanadi Water Dispute Tribunal will hear the petitions filed by the state of Odisha and Chhattisgarh over the sharing of Mahanadi water.
In the previous hearing, the Tribunal had asked Chhattisgarh and Odisha to file statement of claims in a petition filed by Chhattisgarh for equal distribution of Mahanadi water. The state of Odisha, in an affidavit, rejected the claims of Chhattisgarh and urged the Tribunal to dismiss the complaint of Chhattisgarh as it is not maintainable.
It further stated that the complaint filed by Chhattisgarh January 21, after the constitution of the Mahanadi Tribunal, is ultra vires of Section 3 of the Act of 1956.
