Keonjhar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi Sunday announced an additional Rs50 crore for the development and beautification of Tarini temple at Ghatagaon in Keonjhar district.

Majhi, who is on a two-day visit to his home district beginning Sunday, made the announcement after offering puja at the temple.

The Chief Minister said that during his visit to the temple he realised that the ongoing Rs 50-crore renovation project needed additional funding.

He said his government would request the Union government to promote Keonjhar district, especially the Ma Tarini temple, as national-level tourist destination.

Earlier in the day, Majhi, who is visiting his home district for the first time after assuming charge as Chief Minister, held a road show from Ghatgaon High school to Ma Tarini temple.

The Chief Minister also offered puja at the Baldevjew temple in Keonjhar town and interacted with people.

Majhi is scheduled to visit his native village Raikala on Monday, hold a roadshow, address a public meeting, and interact with people before returning to Bhubaneswar.
