Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Wednesday announced financial assistance of Rs 56 crore to the kendu leaf workers in the third phase for 2022 crop year, said a source.
More than eight lakh kendu leaf workers will be benefitted from the announcement, the source added.
Chief Minister’s office source here said the beneficiaries would get this bonus and incentives in the current July. For the crop year 2022, assistance of Rs 56.23 crore will be given.
While 7.75 lakh kendu leaf pluckers would be given 25 per cent bonus 40,000 kendu leaf binders and casual workers would be given five per cent incentives in the third phase for the crop year 2022, the source added.
In the first phase of 2022 crop year in total Rs 83.34 crore assistance was given to the kendu leaf beneficiaries. While Rs 1,000 was given to each kendu leaf plucker, each binder and casual workers were given Rs 1,500, informed the source.
Similarly in the second phase of the 2022 crop year, Rs 1,360 crore financial assistance was given to kendu leaf workers. In total an all-time record of Rs 250. 78 crore assistance was given to Kendu leave beneficiaries in the crop year 2022. For the 2021 crop year, a sum of Rs 118.83 crore bonus and assistance was given.
