Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Thursday congratulated the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for successfully test firing the nuclear-capable Prithvi II missile off the coast of Odisha in Balasore , December 16.
Taking to Twitter, the CM said, “Congratulate @DRDO_India on the successful test firing of surface-to-surface #Prithvi-II missile.”
Defence sources also said that the Strategic Forces Command of the army will flight test long range ballistic missile Agni-IV December 18.
Earlier October 16, India had successfully conducted a night trial of Prithvi-II missile as part of a used trial by the Army from a test range in Odisha, defense sources said.
The Prithivi-II missile is capable of carrying 500-1,000 kg of warheads and is powered by liquid propulsion twin engines.
The sophisticated missile uses an advanced inertial guidance system with a maneuvering trajectory to hit its target.
Already inducted into the armory of Indian defence forces in 2003, the nine-metre tall ‘Prithvi’ was the first missile to have been developed by DRDO under the Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme (IGMDP).
