Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will leave for New Delhi Thursday afternoon to enquire about health condition of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who is admitted at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi.
The former PM has been admitted at AIIMS for the last nine weeks and is on full life support system from Wednesday.
Notably, Patnaik had served as the Union Minister for Mines in the cabinet of Vajpayee after his party Biju Janata Dal in alliance with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) performed well in the general elections.
The former PM’s health condition worsened since Tuesday and continues to be critical, said an official statement by AIIMS.
93-year-old Vajpayee was admitted to the hospital June 11 with a kidney tract infection, chest congestion and urine output on the lower side.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited AIIMS Wednesday evening to enquire about the condition of the former prime minister.
Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu and BJP president Amit Shah visited the former Prime Minister today.
Atal Bihari Vajpayee was thrice elected the prime minister between 1996 and 1999 and is the only non-Congress Prime Minister to complete the full term of five years, from 1999 to 2004.
As his health condition deteriorated, he had slowly withdrawn himself from public life and was confined to his residence for years.
