Bhubaneswar: Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) will launch a 20-day long padayatra across the state from Monday, its President Sarat Patnaik said here Sunday.

Patnaik said during padayatra, the Congress activists will visit every home in each panchayat and apprise the people about the failure of both the BJP government at the Centre and the BJD government in the state on honouring the promises they made to the people.

The OPCC President released a leaflet listing the promises made by both governments and their failure to fulfill it as well as the scams that allegedly happened during the period.

Patnaik said that though the BJD is in power for more than two decades, the state is passing through a bad phase. The government, he alleged, failed to fulfill its promise to provide two lakh jobs to youths, irrigate 45 per cent of farmland in every block, provide quality education and healthcare to people and to double the income of the farmers.

Patnaik said similarly the promises made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi have been found to be false. The prices of commodities has skyrocketed. The prices of petrol, diesel and cooking gas have increased by almost two times than what it was in 2014, he added.

The Congress leader said the income of the people has decreased due to demonetisation and GST. More than 66 lakh SMEs have been closed and over six crore people in the country have been pushed below the poverty line.

The OPCC Chief said both the BJD and the BJP government have no sincerity to strengthen the youths, farmers, and women economically. He said if Congress returned to power it would give priority to youths, farmers, tribals, SC, OBC, minorities and would make Odisha a developed state.

Patnaik said 30 lakh families were cheated by the chit fund scam and so far they have not got a single pie. The CBI, he alleged, is also not arresting the BJD leaders involved in the scam.
