Balasore: Around Rs 40 lakh in cash and ornaments were looted Wednesday from a Union Bank branch located at Chandaneswar in Odisha’s Balasore district, a source said.

According to the source, a group of armed miscreants perpetuated the heist in broad daylight. The dacoits entered the bank on pretence of being customers and executed the robbery at around 1:20 pm.

Later, they locked up the bank personnel in a room at gunpoint. They looted cash and gold ornaments from the bank before fleeing the spot, the source added.

On being informed, police reached the spot and rescued the bank staff.

Police have launched a probe into the matter.

It can be mentioned here that a group of nine armed robbers looted around Rs 3 lakh cash at an SBI ATM at the time of cash refilling near Jamuna square under Bramhapur police limits in Balasore district in January 2023.
