Bhawanipatna: Women from Koksora area in Odisha’s Kalahandi district Wednesday protested and blocked NH-26 as water supply to the village remained suspended for eight days at a stretch, a source said.

The women demonstrated by keeping water pots on the national highway connecting Bhawanipatna and Jaipur. Traffic on both sides of the road was unable to proceed due to the agitation, the source added.

According to the source, the villagers find it difficult to obtain groundwater via tubewells and wells owing to rocky terrain. While piped water supply remains the only mean to access water, disrupted supply over the last eight days irked them leading to the protest, the source informed.

Later, cops from Mahila Police Station and local sarpanch reached the spot and tried to pacify the protesting women.
