Odisha: Flight services from Utkela Airport in Kalahandi district to begin August 31

Bhawanipatna: Flight services between Utkela Airport in Kalahandi district and Bhubaneswar will start from August 31, said a source.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) had granted license in this regard August 7.

According to the source, IndiaOne Air will provide air service between Utkela Airport and Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Bhubaneswar in the first phase. Later, the services will be extended to Raipur in Chhattisgarh.

The airport is being developed under Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS)-Ude Desh ka Aam Naagarik (UDAN). The state government has spent Rs162 crore for land acquisition, construction of runway and buildings for the airport, added the source.

The airstrips at Amarda, Jeypore, Jharsuguda, Rangeilunda, Rourkela and Utkela of the state have been identified for development under UDAN scheme. Of these, flight operations have commenced from Jharsuguda, Jeypore and Rourkela airports after the revival of these airports, the source said.
