Bargarh: Odisha Vigilance sleuths conducted several raids on properties linked to Gaisilet Police Station IIC Birabar Bhagat in Bargarh district Monday on allegations of him possessing assets disproportionate to known sources of income, a source said.
On basis of search warrants issued by Special Judge of Vigilance, Sambalpur, a team consisting two DSPs, seven Inspectors, two ASIs, and other staff members of Odisha Vigilance conducted simultaneous raids at four places linked to Bhagat.
During the raids, they found one double-storeyed building at Anguliapada in Sambalpur district worth over Rs 77 lakh in his name as well as a farmhouse in Sambalpur worth about Rs 21 lakh.
The Vigilance team also detected 10 plots in prime locations of Sambalpur town and Bonei in Sundargarh district. The registered sale deed value of the landed properties is estimated to be more than Rs 1.11 crore. However, the market value is likely to be much higher as undervaluation of the plots during registration is suspected. A thorough probe has been initiated in this regard, the official said.
Apart from the above, bank and insurance deposits worth Rs 16.68 lakh, 166 gram gold jewellery, nearly Rs 80,000 in cash, two four-wheelers (worth Rs 13.65 lakh) and two two-wheelers (Rs 9.41 lakh) were also found from his possession.
Overall valuation of his movable and immovable properties is likely to increase as searches are underway, the official added.
In a similar but unrelated incident, Odisha Vigilance officials May 17 raided the residence and office of Bhanjanagar Additional Civil Supply Officer (ACSO) on allegations of possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
