Berhampur: A girl met with a watery grave and her friend went missing while they were bathing in the sea near Aryapali village in Odisha’s Ganjam district Thursday, a source said.
The deceased was identified as Swapnarani Pandit from Kanisi village whereas the missing girl was identified as Guddly Mishra from Sheragada town who had appeared for Plus-II second-year exam this year.
According to the source, five girls had gone to take bath in the sea near Aryapali village. They went deep into the water but could not come back ashore. Later, upon hearing their screams for help, locals rushed to their rescue and managed to save three girls.
Afterwards, locals fished out the body of a girl while following a tiring effort.
On being informed, Fire services personnel reached the spot and launched a search operation to trace the fifth girl – who is still missing.
Meanwhile, an aircraft from Bhubaneswar has been deployed to trace the missing girl following the direction of Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), the source added.
The aircraft flew from Bhubaneswar and reached Aryapali to find the missing girl with the help of radar.
However, there was no trace of the missing girl at the time of filing this report.
