Bhubaneswar: Odisha girls emerged champions in the Regu event of the 21st National Sub-Junior Sepak Takraw Championship, which concluded at the KIIT premises here Sunday. Manipur finished runners-up while Bihar secured the third position.
In the boys’ doubles event Odisha finished second behind Manipur. Haryana stood third. In the girls’ doubles Odisha had to be content with the third place finish. Nagaland clinched the title, while Haryana finished runners-up.
Earlier Odisha boys and girls had emerged champions in the boys’ and girls’ team events. State sports minister Chandra Sarathi Behera and KIIT founder and Rajya Sabha member Achyuta Samanta joined as the guests and distributed prizes.
Bowlers reign supreme
Rabinandan Sahoo (6/16) wrecked havoc as Jagatsinghpur pulled out a narrow three-run victory over Kalahandi in a low-scoring encounter of the U-16 Inter-District cricket tournament here at the BOSE Ground in Cuttack, Sunday.
Chasing 62 runs for victory, the Kalahandi batsmen dished out a pathetic batting display to be bowled out for 58 runs in 14.3 overs.
Earlier, Jagatsinghpur too had a batting debacle as Anuj Patnaik (7/24) ripped their batting line-up apart to bowl them out for 61 in 19.5 overs.
