Odisha government boost for pensioners

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced Saturday a hike of Rs 200 per month in the social security pension under Madhu Babu Pension Yojana (MBPY). Approximately 48 lakh pensioners will benefit from this hike.

Patnaik made this announcement while attending a video conference on ‘Ama Gaon, Ama Bikash’ programmed here.  Currently those who fall in the 60-plus age category get Rs 300 per month while those who are 80 years and above get Rs 500. Now with the hike the amounts will increase to Rs 500 and Rs 700 respectively.

Stating that the enhanced pension will come into effect from February 15, 2019, Patnaik said his government had recently included five lakh more beneficiaries under MBPY.

The state government had launched Madhu Babu Pension Yojana, January 1, 2008, by merging two pension schemes – Old Age Pension and Odisha Disability Pension schemes.
