Bhubaneswar: Odisha Governor Ganeshi Lal and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Sunday condoled the death of veteran BJD leader and former state cabinet minister Pradeep Maharathy who passed away this morning.
“Hon’ble Governor condoles the sad demise of Hon’ble MLA & Ex Minister Pradeep Maharathy and conveys his deep sympathy to the bereaved family and constituents. He was a popular leader & able legislator, his untimely death is a big loss to the polity,” the Governor wrote on Twitter.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik also expressed deep grief at the passing away of the seven-term MLA of Pipili.
The Chief Minister described Late Maharathy as a stalwart of Biju Janata Dal and a long time associate of Biju Babu. Known for his exceptional organisational capacity, Maharathy had won from Pipili consecutively seven times. He was a true leader of people, Naveen said and conveyed his deep sympathy to the bereaved family and the people of Pipili.
The mortal remains of late Pradeep Maharathy will be cremated with full state honours, a government official said.
