Lok Sabha member representing Cuttack parliamentary constituency segment Bhartruhari Mahtab requested the Centre to declare Ravenshaw as a Central University.

“The Ravenshaw University is the youngest varsity in Odisha. But, it has a long history. Founded in 1868, the higher education institution has been a college for 147 years and a university for 15 years. It has been training students from Odisha and beyond. The academy has given birth to many scholars, scientists, freedom fighters and politicians. The university has 27 departments and 23 PG departments. It offers Ph.D., Doctor of literature or (D.Litt.) and Undergraduate honors courses in 28 departments,” the BJD parliamentarian argued in the lower house of the Parliament.

“With the golden history of Ravenshaw University in the heart of the state of Odisha, the Central government needs to immediately turn it into a central university in view of the higher education being offered in the educational institution,” the Cuttack MP further said.

Notably, the only Central University in Odisha is in Koraput district.
