Bhubaneswar: Odisha ST & SC Development, Minorities & Backward Classes Welfare Minister Nityananda Gond Wednesday said that discussions are on to make Odisha liquor-free.

On occasion of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Gond said that the government can’t encourage liquor sales fearing revenue loss.

“Liquor has been banned in several states at the government-level. Our government is also committed to do the same. Necessary steps will be taken after discussion in this regard with Excise and other departments,” the minister informed.

Gond further said that the government will try to make Odisha liquor-free in a phase-wise manner.
