Balasore: The half-burnt body of a woman was found on the rooftop of her in-laws’ house in Jayanagar village under Bhograi block of Odihsa’s Balasore district Saturday, said a source.

The deceased was identified as Mili Parida — daughter-in-law of Hemant Parida — a resident of Jayanagar village.

One of Mili’s in-laws said she ended her own life by setting herself on fire. On the other hand, the deceased’s family members alleged that Milli’s in-laws murdered her for dowry.

Upon receiving information, the Bhograi Police arrived at the location.

After the recovery of the half-charred body, it was sent for post-mortem. A local women’s group associated with a SHG (Self Help Group) surrounded the police, and demanded arrest of the mother-in-law and father-in-law of the deceased.

A few members of the SHG even physically assaulted the deceased’s mother-in-law and were engaged in a confrontation with the police present on-site.

The source also informed that Mili had been married to Bhagirathi for past seven years and they have a six-year-old son and a two-year-old daughter.
