Odisha health worker Premalata Barik receives National Florence Nightingale Award

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik congratulated health worker Premalata Barik Wednesday on her receiving the National Florence Nightingale Award, 2020 from President of India Ram Nath Kovind.

The awardee presently works at Kujang community health centre.

Taking to his Twitter handle, Patnaik wrote in Odia, “Congratulations to Mrs Premalata Barik of Kujang community health centre, who was honoured by the President with National Florence Nightingale Award for her notable work in providing healthcare to people. Your sincerity and dedicated service are good sources of inspiration for all.”

The multipurpose female health supervisor from Jagatsinghpur district, along with 50 more recipients, was conferred the national award by Kovind at a virtual ceremony held in New Delhi Wednesday night.

It is pertinent to mention, the President acknowledged nurses as the first link between public and health care system. He also mentioned in his address about the ancient Indian traditions of service and helping needy people, which are reflected in services of our nurses.

The President exemplified the selfless contribution of nurses in India’s fight against Covid-19 as well as their relentless service in carrying out the national vaccination programme to keep the virus at bay.
