Odisha: Income Tax sleuths raid properties of former MLA Sanatan Mahakud

Bhubaneswar/ Keonjhar: The Income Tax (I-T) Department Thursday conducted simultaneous raids on the properties associated with former Champua MLA Sanatan Mahakud over tax evasion charges, a source said.

According to the source, the sleuths carried out raids at as many as 10 locations including the former legislator’s residences in Keonjhar, his ancestral home and several places in Bhubaneswar.

Apart from that, Mahakud’s office, Golaka Bihari Palace and his personal assistant Bikash Mohanty’s house in Bhubaneswar were also raided by a 10-member team of the I-T Department.

The source informed about the recovery of a significant amount of cash from Mohanty’s house by the sleuths.

Mahakud’s office at Jharpada in Bhubaneswar and three places in Keonjhar were also being searched by the IT department officials at the time of filing this report.

Notably, cash deposits to the tune of whopping Rs 165 crore were frozen from five bank accounts linked to Mahakud in 2018.
