Odisha: Karanjia tehsildar under Vigilance scanner over DA allegations

Karanjia: Odisha Vigilance sleuths Monday raided several properties linked to Karanjia tehsildar in Mayurbhanj district over allegations of possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

The accused tehsildar has been identified as Charles Nayak.

The officers from Cuttack and Bhubaneswar Vigilance cells conducted raids at Nayak’s office, his ancestral home in Bhadrak district and his government quarters in Mayurbhanj’s Karanjia town.

The searches were underway at the time of filling this report.

The valuation of his movable and immovable assets is yet to be ascertained.

In another such raid last Monday, Odisha Vigilance sleuths searched properties of Gaisilet Police Station IIC Birabar Bhagat in Bargarh district over disproportionate assets (DA) allegations.

During the raids, the officials found one double-storeyed building at Anguliapada in Sambalpur district worth over Rs 77 lakh registered in his name as well as a farmhouse in Sambalpur district worth Rs 21 lakh.

The Vigilance team also detected 10 plots in prime locations of Sambalpur town and Bonei in Sundargarh district.

Besides, bank and insurance deposits worth Rs 16.68 lakh, 166 gram gold jewellery, nearly Rs 80,000 in cash, two four-wheelers (worth Rs 13.65 lakh) and two two-wheelers (Rs 9.41 lakh) were also found from his possession.
