Bhubaneswar: Odisha Government is considering a proposal by the state Transport Department to grant subsidies to individuals for the purchase of electric vehicles, a highly placed source said Wednesday.

The proposal by the Transport Department is expected to be approved by the Cabinet soon.

According to the proposal, 15 per cent subsidy will be provided for the purchase of two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and four-wheelers, with a maximum subsidy of Rs 5,000, Rs 12,000, and Rs 1,00,000 respectively. Electric two-wheelers must meet the performance and efficiency eligibility standards set forth in FAME India Phase-II to avail the incentive.

Besides, interest-free loans will be provided to state government employees for the purchase of electric vehicles. Government departments and offices, as well as public sector undertakings, can hire electric vehicles for official purposes, with purchase incentives available to owners.

To promote electric vehicles, government departments and public-sector enterprises (PSUs) may offer additional incentives on the hiring fees.

Municipalities will be urged to offer subsidised parking to all personal electric vehicles. Further, individual cities will develop city parking plans to encourage facilities for subsidised on-street parking spaces for EVs and EV charging stations, the source added.
