Champua: Champua additional district and sessions judge Saroj Kumar Dash Saturday convicted a man for his wife’s murder and sentenced him to seven years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) along with Rs10,000 fine.
In case the penalty amount is not deposited by the accused, he will have to serve an additional six-month imprisonment, the judge ordered.
As per the case file, Santanu Kumar Giri of Brahmapur Karanjia village under Champua police limit in Keonjhar district was married to Tilotama, daughter of Kshetrabashi Pradhan of Chandrasekharpur village in the area five years back. But after marriage, he was regularly torturing his wife demanding more dowry. He then killed her by giving poison and tried to give his crime a different form.
In this regard, his father-in-law Kshetrabashi Pradhan complained at Champua Police Station July 21, 2017. A case (10/2017) was registered by the police. The judge pronounced the judgement after hearing 14 eyewitnesses and based on medical report and the case diary.
