Bhubaneswar: Beginning June 2023, all beneficiaries of Odisha government’s ‘Madhu Babu Pension Yojana’ (MBPY) would get their pensions in cash at distribution centres on the 15th of each month, an official letter issued by the state government stated.
In this regard, the state government has sent letters to all Collectors and Municipal Corporation Commissioners.
The decision came as it was getting difficult for many elderly and physically disabled people to withdraw money from their bank accounts under the disbursal system of Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
Besides, some beneficiaries did not receive their respective pensions due to a technical error on DBT portal.
“You are kindly aware that pension was disbursed to about half the beneficiaries under MBPY in DBT mode in the month of May-2023. However, many old and disabled beneficiaries are facing difficulties in withdrawing/ collecting cash from their bank accounts. Some beneficiaries have also not received pension in time due to technical glitch in the portal”, the letter read.
“Keeping in view of the above, the State Government has decided that all MBPY beneficiaries will receive pension in cash from June-2023 onwards. Accordingly, all beneficiaries under Madhu Babu Pension Yojana will be receiving cash on 15th of every month (Jana Seva Diwas) at disbursement places as before,” the letter informed.
Older and disabled pensioners, who are not able to go to the pension disbursement locations, will get their pension at doorsteps, the letter added.
