Odisha metro railway project work to commence before 2023-end: Minister

DMRC roped in as consultant for first phase of Rs 6,255-crore Bhubaneswar Metro

Bhubaneswar: The work for Odisha’s first metro project is likely to commence before 2023-end, Housing and Urban Development Minister, Usha Devi informed Friday.

The minister further informed that Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has been engaged as a consultant to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for the project.

G Mathi Vathanan, Urban Development Department secretary said that the metro rail project for the Bhubaneswar capital region, which will also include Cuttack and connect with Jatni-Khordha and later Puri, has been approved by the Chief Minister.

According to the secretary, the DPR to connect Bhubaneswar and Cuttack is currently in progress. The survey is almost finished, and the Chief Minister is expected to lay the foundation in June this year.

In the first phase, the metro train service will operate between Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Bhubaneswar and Trisulia in Cuttack. It will cover areas such as Bhubaneswar railway station, Vani Vihar, Jaydev Vihar, Patia, Nandankanan and so on. Later, the proposed metro train service will be extended to Puri.
