Bargarh: A youth strangulated a 15-year-old girl to death and dumped the body into a well at Khuntapali village under Bijepur police limits in Bargarh district, a source said Sunday.
The deceased girl was a resident of Saipali village under Bijepur police limits. She was missing since March 15, 2023. Subsequently, her family members filed an FIR at the police station, said the source.
The source further added that the police arrested the suspect Chandrasekhar Seth for interrogation based on an FIR lodged by the family members of the deceased. During interrogation, Seth admitted killing the girl and dumping her body in the well.
Based on the statement of the accused, Bijepur police and a forensic team recovered the body from the well and sent it for post-mortem.
The accused was allegedly in love with the girl which was not reciprocated. He committed the murder out of envy as the deceased family members were planning to arrange her marriage elsewhere.
