Sambalpur: Sambalpur Police Sunday arrested six persons involved in illegal procurement of firearms, a source said.
The cops seized eight firearms, 22 rounds of live ammunition, one car, two motorcycles and cash worth Rs11.20 lakh from the possession of the accused persons.
The arrested suspects were identified as Manu Pandey, Mohit Paswan, Md Samsher, Md Mousim, Santosh Moharana and Md Ahmed.
Sambalpur SP Mukesh Bhamoo said that the firearms were used by the criminals to terrorise people and extort money from them. He informed that a detailed probe is underway to find out the source of weapons.

Police suspect that the firearms were procured from Bihar and other parts of the country.
The source added that the suspects were arrested under a special drive that was launched by four police stations in Sambalpur district.
It can be mentioned here that police last Monday unearthed an illegal arms manufacturing unit in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district during a special search operation.
In this regard, the cops had also arrested a man and booked him for supplying country-made guns to poachers.
