Odisha: Police takes ITR official on four day remand for sharing classified defence information

Balasore: A senior official of Chandipur Integrated Test Range(ITR) allegedly involved in passing sensitive information on the missile test to a Pakistan agent, was taken on a four-day remand by the Balasore police Saturday.

The police had prayed for five days remand but the court granted four days remand.

The senior ITR official was arrested Friday by Chandipur police after it was detected by the investigating officers that he has been honey trapped and allegedly passing some defence information with a Pakistan agent based at Rawalpindi in exchanges of obscene chats, talks
and videos between them besides monetary transactions.

During the remand period verification of his bank accounts and assets would be made. Further efforts would be made to ascertain whether any other persons were involved with him in the
crime, Superintendent of police Sagarika Nath said.

Sources said that during his remand period, police will check and ask about his financial transactions and other details for sharing classified information to the Pakistan-based agent.

The accused whose name has been kept secret by the police is working as a senior technical officer and was posted in a key wing of the DRDO establishment.

The accused was under the surveillance of the security agencies for about a year and arrested after gathering prima facie evidence against him, police said.
