Odisha prepones summer vacation to April 21 for all schools amid scorching heat

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government announced summer vacation for all schools in the state from Friday in view of the scorching heat, School and Mass Education (S&ME) Minister Samir Ranjan Dash informed Thursday.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik gave the nod to prepone the summer vacation for all private, government and aided schools to April 21 from the previously decided date of May 4, Dash informed.

As per the annual timetable of the S&ME Department, the vacation will continue till June 16, 2023, for Classes I-XII, the minister stated.

However, any change regarding the reopening of the schools will be taken in due course, Dash said.

The minister also informed about the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) meetings are scheduled to take place April 21. In the meetings, guardians do not need to bring students to schools, he added.

During the vacation, students need to follow the ‘vacation education programme’. This programme is specially designed to stop students from wasting their time so that they can utilise it in a more fruitful manner which will benefit them in future, the minister added.

Notably, the state has been reeling under scorching heat over the past few days with the mercury crossing 43 degree Celsius in 11 places Wednesday. Baripada in Mayurbhanj district was the hottest at 44.5 degree Celsius.
