Odisha private bus owners call for strike from December 1

Bhubaneswar: In opposition to state government’s LAccMI scheme, All Odisha Private Bus Owners’ Association has decided to launch a state-wide, indefinite strike from December 1.

The owners plan to hold a dharna in front of the State Assembly November 22.

Association Secretary Debendra Sahu has warned that the owners will go on strike if the government doesn’t meet their demands.

“Between November 22 and November 30, there will be a protest in front of the Assembly. We will go on a strike on December 1 if the state administration disregards our demands. We have often discussed resolving the problem with the state government, but to no avail,” Sahu said, adding that the planned strike can still be called off If the administration chooses.

The association’s executive body meeting, which took place in Bhawanipatna, took a call on the strike.

At the gathering, bus owners from thirty regions talked about the state-run LAccMI bus issue. The government bus service from block headquarters to the district headquarters has been met with opposition from private bus operators who earlier announced a strike during Dussehra but relented after negotiations with the state government.
