Bhubaneswar: Teachers of 662 Non-Government Aided colleges in Odisha Tuesday said that they will participate in Plus II examinations conducted by Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) scheduled to begin March 1.
Convenor of 662 Non-Government Aided College Teachers’ Association Golak Nayak said that a token protest will continue until their demands are met.
The protesting teachers Monday proposed to boycott Plus II examination if the government refused to meet their demands. Later in the day, a meeting was convened between a delegation of agitating teachers and Finance Minister Niranjan Pujari over the matter.
After the meeting, Nayak informed that they have decided to take part in their respective invigilator duties during the examination.
A meeting of the inter-ministerial committee will be held between March 10 and 12 to decide on the demands of the protesting teachers, he informed.
Notably, more than 4,000 teachers from 662 Non-Government Aided colleges across the state are protesting demanding pay at par with that of 488 category teachers. They have been demanding equal pay with the 488 category teachers, same pay for same grade, pension and implementation of 7th Pay Commision recommendations.
Earlier, Odisha Cabinet approved the Payment of Grant-in-Aid to the Non-Government Aided Degree Colleges, Aided Junior Colleges and Aided Higher Secondary Schools Grant-in-Aid Order, 2022 proposal which was aimed to benefit 15,711 teachers and employees in the state. The teachers of 662 Non-Government Aided colleges, however, rued that the move will only benefit a section of teachers belonging to 488 category who were appointed a year after them.
