Odisha records highest single-day spike of 1,833 new coronavirus cases

Bhubaneswar: Odisha registered the highest single-day spike for coronavirus with 1,833 persons testing positive for the disease. Among the new infections 1,118 persons were undergoing quarantine while the remaining 715 were local contacts. The new coronavirus positive patients took the total number of cases in Odisha to 42,550. Currently there are 15,370 active cases of COVID-19 in Odisha.

Twelve new deaths were reported from various districts in the last 24 hours. Most of them were suffering from various comorbidities other than coronavirus. Three deaths were reported from Ganjam district. Other districts which had fatalities due to coronavirus were Sundargarh (2), Kendrapara, Sambalpur, Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj and Gajapati (one each).

Khurda district topped the list of fresh coronavirus cases with 298 new infections. It was followed by Ganjam district with 279 new infections and Rayagada with 152 fresh COVID-19 cases.

The other districts that reported fresh infections are Cuttack (124), Sundargarh (110), Kalahandi (84), Balasore (69), Puri (67), Nayagarh (61), Jajpur (60), Bhadrak (50), Koraput (47), Dhenkanal (43), Sambalpur (39), Bolangir (37), Malkangiri (36), Gajapati (35), Boudh, Kendrapara, and Mayurbhanj (34 each), Sonepur (33), Jharsuguda (30), Jagatsinghpur, Kandhamal and Keonjhar (16 each), Nabarangpur (11) Angul (nine), Bargarh (eight) and Nuapada (one).

So far 247 persons have died in Odisha due to COVID-19. Forty five more persons have succumbed due to reasons other than COVID-19 while they were undergoing treatment.
