Odisha records highest single-day spike with 3,682 new COVID-19 cases

Bhubaneswar: Odisha reported a record single-day spike of 3,682 coronavirus cases, Friday. This incidentally is the highest number of coronavirus infections in 24 hours in Odisha. Out of the new cases, 2,241 persons were in quarantine while the remaining were local contacts. Currently the total number of active cases in Odisha stands at 28,836.

In the last 24 hours eight people have become victims of the COVID-19 virus. Out of them two are from Ganjam district, two also from Bhubaneswar in Khurda district and one each from Bargarh, Bhadrak, Bolangir and Raygada. The total death tally in the state now stands at 456.

Khurda district continued to be the hotspot of the disease as it reported 775 new COVID-19 cases. It was followed by Rayagada which reported 495 fresh infections.

The other districts that reported a large number of coronavirus cases are Cuttack (369), Mayurbhanj (272), Ganjam (174), Bargarh (152), Koraput (140), Sambalpur (128), Puri (115) and Nayagarh (109).

Districts that reported less than 100 new infections in the last 24 hours are: Jajpur (88), Balasore (87), Malkangiri (86), Bolangir (68), Dhenkanal (61), Keonjhar (59), Angul (56), Bhadrak (51), Gajapati (48), Jagatsinghput, Kendrapara (44 each), Jharsuguda (43), Kalahandi (41), Nabarangpur (38), Kandhamal (36), Nuapada (23), Sonepur and Sundargarh (27 each), Boudh (14) and Deogarh (12).

So far over 94,668 persons have tested positive for the disease in Odisha out of which 65,323 have recovered.
